| I have an old Kohler k321 horizontal shaft 14HP engine, and i was wondering if you think it will work ok for a go-cart engine. Also, are there any mods to this engine that i could do to squeeze out some more power?

It's a great Garden Tractor engine...
The motor is a Cast Iron block, long stroke design, not really ideal for a gokart. You cannot go over the governed speed, the rods and pistons just cant take it. The engine weighs a good 130lbs...so thats something to think about. |

eh, without a Starter/Generator, it's probably closer to 100lbs...but still, figure that a 5hp briggs is only like 25lbs wet.
14hp is alot, but it would be a rough,v violent ride. These engines were generally mounted on rubber cradles becasue the vibes were so bad.
But as far as power and logevity...LEts say Ive got these K-series Kohers from the very Early 60's still running like tops, with over 1000 hours on them. |

| Well, thanks for the replies, i think i will try and find a little bit lighter motor for my gocart, and stick the kohler into a garden tractor, or something. On a side question though, are there any after-market parts,or tips to get more power for this motor?

| You'll have to check with a Garden Tractor puller site...there are mods, and they can be screamers making unholy power...but are still not suited for Karts. |
