250cc go kart dies under throttle

Postby gird123 » Thu Jul 24, 2014 11:26 pm

Hi,

I bought a go kart/ dune buggy this weekend. The PO had two exactly the same and could not get this one to run, was running fine at christmas and he pulled it out at the beginning of summer and it dies under throttle. It is a 250cc chinese made go kart. I don't know the year or anything.

It will idle fine but under throttle it sputters and dies. The PO said he swapped the carb, rectifier, starter solenoid and ... from the one that ran fine. I ordered a new ignition coil and electric choke. still runs exactly the same. Any ideas what i should try next?

Welcome to the forum. First off, since it idles fine it isn't going to be anything electrical related unless it's the choke. I would start by taking the carb off and cleaning it because a carb can't be too clean.

Next check for air leaks on the intake. Either take it off and make sure the gaskets are good, and all hoses/breathers are in place. The other option is have it idling and spray some carb cleaner or something flammable of that nature on the intake and carb area. If the RPM increases then you have a leak somewhere.

This should get you started or check some things of the list.

Thank you.

When i shot starter fluid in the intake it dies?

I removed and cleaned the carb this morning.

Does anyone have a pic of where all the vacuum lines connect. There are 3 that have screws stopping them up?

There is no identification on it other than the serial number. Is there any way to find make, model, and year?

The carb cleaner goes on the outside of the intake area. If there is a said leak then the cleaner would get sucked in. I'm not sure about the picture or diagram though.

The serial number is really just a date code. That one is to old for me to know what it is. black might know more about it when he gets on this afternoon.

Where would you buy a carb from? Saw a few places on ebay for 39.

Hi gird welcome to GoKartsRUS, you said it sat over the the winter? It is possible that the verb could be junked up, when you clean it, allow it to sit overnight is possible so that everything gets loosened up. Then if you have a air compressor blow everything out before putting it back together. That will more than likely be the culprit. Or like goofiest said it is possible that you have a vacuum leak also since the Previous Owner had changed parts on it. Like Gofast said it starts up so it;s not an electrical problem, unless you have an electric choke, but you replaced that already. Is it possible for you to post an image of the carb, it would make it easier to identify it.
